Today I decided to push on to the next step with Zoey: only clicking when she picks the tubetato up off the ground. The timing of the click is turning out to be even trickier, since it's hard to be positive in that exact moment that she puts her mouth on it whether she's actually picking it up or just touching it. I ended up going the route of clicking for both, giving her a lame reward for just putting her teeth on it, and giving her a much better one for when she actually picked it up. She seems to be getting the idea, so maybe that's a good stopgap while I continue to work on my timing. And psychic ability.
After training, she took a good long nap in this giant blue chair we have on the porch:

Next step: continue at this level until she builds consistency picking it up off the ground.
